Wildfires in Mexico (2024-03-28)

On the 6 April 2024, 71 wildfires are reported as active in 19 states of the Mexican Republic, out of which 20 fires are within protected natural areas. Some states such as Oaxaca and Chiapas have been seriously affected, with more than 15 000 hectares burnt. The reason for this request is that in Oaxaca the active fire is located in a natural reserve of great biological importance for the country. The event is on-going and spreading with damage expected to affect forests and infrastructures in the areas of "Benito Juárez" and "La Ciruela" (in the municipalities of San Miguel Chimalapa and Santa María Chimalapa in the state of Oaxaca). Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping is requested to provide initial rough estimation and wildfire extent emergency mapping.
