This dataset supports an observational spatial-panel analysis of maize yield responses and recovery following compound heat-drought events across 88 maize-growing grid cells in Kansas, United States, from 1981 to 2016. The deposit includes the processed climate and yield panel, compound-event indicators, event-onset and recovery-episode data, model outputs, sensitivity analyses, analysis code, data dictionaries, and quality-assurance documentation. Compound events were identified using cell-specific growing-season temperature and root-zone soil-moisture thresholds. The study evaluates immediate yield anomalies, multi-year recovery debt, repeated or persistent compound exposure, and robustness to alternative event definitions, detrending methods, covariance estimators, and percentile thresholds. Source datasets include GDHY maize yields, SAGE crop calendars, ERA5-Land temperature and soil moisture, and ERA5 precipitation. Users should consult the README and source-data documentation for variable definitions, provenance, and reuse conditions.
