Bacteria belonging to the genus Xenorhabdus(Family: Enterobacteriaceae) are symbiotic bacteria associated with soil -borneentomopathogenic nematodes belonging to Steinernema species (Phylum: Nematoda;Order: Rhabditida; Family: Steirnernematidae). The nematode-bacterium duo haveemerged as important biological control agents of insect pests. These bacteria arebiologically, functionally and genetically unique and possess genes that potentially areinvolved in diverse biological activities.
