European Region-to-Region Origin Destination Matrices

The study utilizes a comprehensive dataset of region-to-region origin-destination matrices capturing various types of flows across European NUTS2 regions from 2010 to 2018. The data, sourced from the ESPON IRiE (Interregional Relations in Europe) project and downloaded from the ESPON Database, includes matrices for: - Migration- Tourism- Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)- Remittances- Freight transport- Passenger transport- Erasmus student exchanges- Horizon 2020 research collaborations This unique dataset provides a multifaceted view of interregional connections within Europe, allowing for in-depth analysis of economic, social, and knowledge flows between regions. The accompanying code repository contains scripts used to process and analyze the IRiE data. Key components include: - Data cleaning and preprocessing routines- Statistical and network single-layer and multilayer analysis All code is written in R and Python.
