BK polyomavirus is a ubiquitous pathogen establishing subclinical infections in the urinary bladder. At this time little is known how these infections are controlled in this tissue. We performed infections with archetype and rearranged BKPyV in the normal-like immortalized urothelial cell line, HBLAK, in monoculture and organotypic culture. We also performed infections in numerous bladder cancer cell lines and observed correlations between viral DNA replication and transcriptomic changes in the host cell.
