Yeast mannan metabolism Bovine-adapted Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron strains display

Bacterial strains were selectively isolated from bovine rumen and fecal samples by enriching on restrictive medium supplemented with yeast mannan. Genomes were searched for genes involved in the utilization of yeast mannan from the cell wall of S. cerevisiae. Polysaccharide utilization loci (PULs) were found in all of the isolates that show synteny to previously characterized MAN-PULs from Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron (B. theta). Further genomic analysis revealed high (>99.5%) 16S rRNA gene identity to B. theta.
