We evaluated transcriptional profiles in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from 54 pregnant women in Kenya, 19 of whom delivered preterm. Overall design: To characterize immune function in these women, we either left PBMCs unstimulated or stimulated the PBMCs in vitro with the A/California/2009(pH1N1) strain of influenza to understand the virus-induced immune response.
