The invention relates to a method for operating a panel-processing installation， wherein a monitoring region of the panel-processing installation is monitored by means of at least a first sensing device. According to the invention a quantity that is relevant to the safety of a person located in the monitoring region and/or to the safe operation of the panel-processing installation is determined (82) by means of the first sensing device， the existence of a situation is inferred (120) from the determined quantity， and an action occurs (146) in dependence on the situation.
