Assessing the microbiome stability and projecting the biogas production in a full-scale thermophilic dry methane fermentation of municipal solid waste

Despite long time experience in the thermophilic dry methane fermentation of municipal solid waste (MSW), the black-box of microbes during anaerobic digestion as well as the heterogeneity of MSW with various properties still pose a challenge for a stable biogas production using full-scale fermentation tank. In this study, two types of MSW (general combustible wastes and paper wastes) were used for the laboratory-scale dry methane fermentation to investigate sludge microbiome by high-throughput sequence of 16S rRNA gene amplicons.
