Dataset #1: Grassland

The purpose of this experiment was to compare the abundance of grass and other plant species, as well as observe the diversity of plants in the grassland. The abundance of grass and other plant species was determined by quadrant sampling. This technique involves randomly placing a metal, square quadrant on the grassland and examining its contents for its abundance, number of species, total cover of vegetation, and total cover of grass. The random placement method was adopted to avoid any bias in the results. This experiment was conducted on September 26th, 2014 from 3:00-3:35pm on the grassland by The Chimneystack Road. The grass and plants examined in the field had started to wilt and dry due to weather and season conditions. Observations and the recording of the data was completed by Lilach Dahoah-Halevi (myself), Cait Carew, and Nitharsija Srikanthan.
