资源简介:
Angela Carter's re-imagining of Red Riding Hood as a tale of sexual awakening in her anthology of short stories, The Bloody Chamber, has seen the classic children's story enjoy a new currency in popular culture and cultural theory. The encounter between girl and wolf has been re-evaluated as an exploration of female sexuality, subversive femininity, and human/animal relations. Furthermore, recent incarnations of the tale increasingly conflate Red with the Wolf, adding to the complexity of the relationship between the two protagonists. The work 'Christina sleeps on both sides of Grandma's bed' resurrects historical visual representations and archaic narrative elements while acknowledging contemporary conflations of Red with the wolf. Research Contribution The work contributes to the mythography of tale by visually integrating Red, the wolf, and the grandmother to expose the shifting thresholds and boundaries of the three archetypes. The wolf serves as the mediator between Red's newly acquired sexual maturity, and her menopausal grandmother's procreative 'redundancy', encouraging a cyclic reading of the tale in which Red's future is implicated in her present. Research Significance The following indicators attest to the work's value: inclusion in the multi-platform, interactive documentary, 'Re-Enchantment', produced for ABC Television in association with Screen Australia, Film Victoria and the University of Technology, Sydney; analysis of the work in the chapter exploring representations of Little Red Riding Hood in contemporary art, in the book 'Representing the Bodies of "Bad Women" and "Good Women"', published by Seikyusha, Tokyo (Japanese language); inclusion in the anthology 'Trunk V2: Blood', edited by Suzanne Boccalatte and Meredith Jones; selection for the cover of the Print Council of Australia's journal, 'Imprint', special IMPACT7 International Printmaking Conference edition; acquisition for the Maroondah City Council Art Collection.
