Cortical root tissues of Masdevallia orchids Targeted loci environmental

The study used amplicon sequencing of the fungal ITS2 region to characterize the mycorrhizal fungal communities associated with the cortical cells of Masdevallia nidifica and Masdevallia chontalensis roots collected in premontane and montane forests in Costa Rica. Total DNA was extracted from surface-sterilized root tissues, the ITS2 region was PCR-amplified, and products were sequenced using Illumina MiSeq. Quality filtering and clustering at 97% similarity were performed to identify OTUs associated with orchid root tissues.
