Investigation of the plankton composition at Edisto Inlet, 1968-69

Sampling for vertical migrants of plankton over periods of 24 hours in Edisto Inlet was conducted to determine the effects of continuous low light intensity under the ice on the migration structure. However, the extremely strong tidal currents under the ice rendered this impossible so instead a general account of the organism captured was reported. The hauls were taken through a seal hole in the ice by the nearest convenient ice berg with a depth of 50 metres. A nylon net 1.7m long with a mouth diameter of 50cm and a mesh of 250µm was hauled from as near to the bottom as possible to the surface or left in a tidal current for up to an hour just below the ice.
