资源简介:
The Heimdall Erosion Surface was followed southwards from the Olympus Range through the Asgard Range and onward to the mountains south of the Taylor-Ferrar Glaciers where it is said to die out or become unrecognizable. Wherever possible, the base of the Taylor Group and its relationship to the basement was investigated. At each site a reconnaissance was conducted to determine the best sections to study. In each area one or more sections was measured in detail and where possible these covered the whole succession from the Kukri Erosion surface, through the lower part of the Taylor Group to well above the Heimdall Erosion Surface. Individual sections were supplemented by lateral surveys to assess variability. Sedimentary structures, trace fossils assemblages and composition were recorded and samples taken for further laboratory study. The main sites and areas visited were Mt Boreas/Mt Aeolus, Niebelungen valley, southern side upper Wright valley, Knobhead, New Mountain and Rotunda.
