Assessing Broadcast and Digital Meteorologists’ Hazard Communication Practices

This dataset contains survey responses from 193 degreed and practicing broadcast and digital meteorologists collected between March 4 and October 4, 2025. The survey was developed in partnership with the AMS Board on Broadcast Meteorology and the AMS Board of Digital Meteorologists to examine how these professionals communicate weather information across traditional and emerging media channels. Specifically, the survey captured data on the platforms respondents use to disseminate weather information, the hazards they communicate on each channel, how they divide their professional responsibilities between broadcast and digital work, their perceptions of credibility in the digital meteorology landscape, and their attitudes toward the broader evolution of the field. Recruitment targeted practicing degreed meteorologists through AMS board networks, professional Facebook groups, AMS newsletters, and direct outreach to chief meteorologists in the top 100 designated market areas. The dataset is accompanied by the full survey questionnaire and a reference report.
