To investigate the variation in microbial communities and their metabolic potential between the surface layer and the deep chlorophyll maximum (DCM) region in response to environmental parameters, eight metagenome samples were collected from the western Pacific Ocean—four from the surface layer and four from the DCM. The resulting dataset includes a gene catalogue, functional annotations, and total gene abundance comparisons between the surface and DCM layers.
