资源简介:
POLLEN ANALYSIS AT 48YE701:
Three pollen samples were examined from 48YE701 on the north side of Yellowstone Lake. These pollen samples were collected as a groundstone wash, an associated soil sample, and from the present ground surface. Pollen was analyzed from the groundstone to determine which, if any, plants had been processed using this·metate. The associated soil sample and present ground surface sample acted as controls for interpretation of the wash from the groundstone.
RESIDUE ANALYSIS OF A GRINDING STONE FROM YELLOWSTONE LAKE, WYOMING:
A positive result to deer anti-serum was obtained on this artifact. As a negative result was obtained against elk anti-serum, this indicates that a member of the deer family (sp?) is represented by this result. Cross-reactions with other species are not known to occur. The use of grinding stones for the preparation of pemmican is well documented. Although a previous study (Yohe, Newman and Schneider in prep.) has demonstrated the use of grinding stones for rodents this is the first time that the proteins of a large animal have been detected.
