Rattus is the largest genus of mammals and causes huge human suffering. Meanwhile, the laboratory rat domesticated from R. norvegicus serves as a valuable resource in biomedical and behavioral research. Genomics knowledge is critical to understand the physiological ecology, adaptive evolution, and applications in biomedicine of Rattus. Here we report a draft genome of R. tanezumi and present resequencing data of different populations and large-scale transcriptome during hypoxia condition. Our purposes provide insights into the genetic basis of adaptative evolution of this Rattus species.
