The dataset named Bridgedeck — USGS Seismic Hazard at Bridge Locations (NSHM 2014) is part of the bridgedeck dataset collection for US bridge deck deterioration research. It provides seismic ground shaking hazard values sampled at every CONUS bridge location from the USGS 2014 National Seismic Hazard Model. The dataset includes three spectral acceleration metrics at the 2% probability of exceedance in 50 years (approximately a 2,475-year return period), which is the standard used in US building and bridge design codes. These metrics are Peak Ground Acceleration and spectral accelerations at two different periods. The source data is obtained from the USGS static hazard curve API queried on a 0.05° grid covering CONUS (625,721 grid points), with bridge values obtained via nearest-neighbour lookup. Coverage is limited to CONUS only, excluding Alaska and Hawaii (as they have different NSHM models), and there are about 1.6% null values for bridges at ocean or territory coordinates outside the USGS grid. This is a static feature that does not vary by year and can be joined to NBI bridge data using the bridge_id key. Seismic hazard metrics are significant in bridge deck deterioration research, with sa1p0_2pct_50yr ranking #7 in the bridgedeck XGBoost feature importance, confirming that earthquake exposure contributes to long-term bridge deck deterioration beyond direct structural damage.
