This dataset presents the number of students enrolled in public higher education institutions under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education from 2015-16 to 2022-23. The data are taken from the Student Monitoring Information System (SISE). They include initial training, alternance training, continuing education and diploma, as well as distance learning. Enrolments are observed on 15 January, except for the University of New Caledonia, which has additional time to take into account the Southern calendar. **For more information on this dataset, see[its documentation](https://data.enseignementsup-recherche.gouv.fr/api/datasets/1.0/fr-esr-sise-effectifs-d-etudiants-inscriptions-esr-public/attachments/descriptif2023_docx/).** National Training Framework and EPSCP-CPGE agreements: Impacts on measured workforce developments Two regulatory provisions impact the changes observed from 2018-19 and create statistical breaks: \- The new National Training Framework (CNF), set up for Bachelor's degrees. The CNF significantly reduces the number of diploma titles. Some of these headings have become more precise, leading to easier classification by discipline: this is the case for science degrees, which are less frequently classified as ‘multi-science’, but more frequently as ‘basic sciences and applications’ or ‘nature and life sciences’. Conversely, other titles are more general, particularly in literary disciplines (Licence mentioning Humanities for example) and are more frequently classified as ‘multi-letters, languages, humanities’. \- The gradual establishment of agreements between high schools with preparatory classes for grandes écoles (CPGE) and public scientific, cultural and professional institutions (EPSCP), of which universities are part, significantly increases the number of enrolments in LMD licenses from this year, even if double enrolments were already possible and effective before. University enrolments include these double enrolments. These two developments mainly affect the number of staff detailed by discipline in L1, a sector that welcomes the vast majority of new entrants. The impact on total staff is more marginal. Developments taking into account double listings are at a constant regulatory perimeter. --- In 2015-2016, the 2014-15 data for these establishments were renewed: University of New Caledonia, ENS Cachan, ENS Rennes. **Due to the large size of the dataset (nearly 3 M records, it is advisable to export the data in several times (year by year for example) and to favor the export csv.** ---
