Digital Archive from an Archaeological Excavation at Beggarwood Park Community Facility and Car Park, Basingstoke, Hampshire, March 2017

This collection comprises site images and records, a report, a vector drawing, and spreadsheet data from an archaeological excavation at Beggarwood Park Community Facility and Car Park, Basingstoke, Hampshire. The works were undertaken by Oxford Archaeology in March 2017. Limited excavations uncovered a small number of features, primarily of Roman date. Episodic earlier prehistoric activity is suggested by the presence of redeposited flint. Features uncovered included: a single Iron Age pit; four Roman pits, three of which were intercutting; a Roman ditch; three undated postholes; and a further uncertain feature. The remains of a Roman neonatal inhumation were also recovered. Activity at the site might relate to a possible nearby Roman cemetery, although equally the periphery of a settlement might have been exposed.
