The invention relates to a barrier paper (10) comprising: a) a paper substrate (11) having a front face and a rear face lying opposite the front face， wherein the paper substrate comprises cellulose fibers and at least some of the cellulose fibers consist of grass fibers， and b) a barrier layer (12) which is arranged on the front face and/or rear face of the paper substrate， said barrier layer (12) comprising or consisting of a polymer binder and at least one wax and/or at least one plant oil. The invention additionally relates to food packaging， preferably a food bag， produced from a barrier paper according to the invention and to the use of a barrier paper according to the invention as food packaging. The invention also relates to a method for producing a barrier paper.
