[C4OC] Torres Strait Dugong and Turtle Management Project

This sub-project will provide technical support, scientific guidance and broker stakeholder partnerships with and on behalf of Torres Strait Island communities to achieve their aspirations to sustainably manage dugongs and marine turtles through their Traditional Owner endorsed community-based Dugong and Turtle Management Plans.
The sub-project will enable TSRA to play a lead role in community engagement activities to seek Traditional Owner support to extend the Torres Strait Dugong Sanctuary north into an area described by Prof Helene Marsh through her research as, “the most important dugong habitat hotspot in Australia”. TSRA will also collaborate with Torres Strait communities, relevant management agencies and other partners to support the culturally appropriate delivery of priority actions in various state, national and multilateral policies and plans including legislation amendments, with the objective of achieving broader conservation outcomes for endangered dugongs and marine turtles in the region.
