Fire Insurance Areas

A fire protection class, also referred to as an ISO rating or a PPC rating, is determined for a fire department, based on that department’s performance in a series of evaluations conducted by the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). OSFM also evaluates a given area to determine an ISO rating or PPC rating it will attribute to that area based on that area’s proximity to a fire department/fire station and the available water supply in the geographical area. This layer visualizes the ISO/PPC rating for the fire department identified as the fire responsible agency for the given address. This rating may differ from OSFM’s rating for geographical area of the given address. The data is maintained and regularly updated by the City of Durham Fire Department to ensure accuracy and reliability.
