Background: Amanita exitialis is a lethal mushroom only discovered from Guangdong Province, China, and its basidiocarps have a high amanitin content. However, its transcriptome and gene family encoding the major toxins of the species have not been reported. Result: The transcriptome sequencing of A. exitialis was performed using Illumina HiSeq 2000 technology, and the de novo assembly of full-length transcripts was assembled by the Trinity method. Conclusion: In the present study, the A. exitialis transcriptome was characterized for the first time, the Amanita toxins and related gene family were systematically analysed. The results provided comprehensive gene expression information on the lethal Amanita at the transcriptional level, which could lay a strong foundation for functional genomics studies in those fungi.
