Amaranthus tricolor L. belongs to short-day sunlight and C4 plants, and it is widely cultivated as a kind of healthy vegetable in China. Under high temperature and short-day sunlight condition, it is easy to bolt of amaranth which influences the quality. Meanwhile, perhaps there are many differences in flowering controlling pathways between Arabidopsis thaliana and Amaranthus tricolor. So in vitro amaranth plantlets were used as the materials to inducte flowering.To further develop genomics resources for waterhemp, we sequenced the transcriptome of 4 periods during the induction of in vitro flowering in Amaranthus tricolor using Illumina HiSeq™ 2000 System. Sequencing produced total 319,199,714 cleaning reads, which after assembly, yielded 99312 unigenes. GO and pathway-based analyses were performed to determine and further to understand the biological functions of those differentially expressed genes.
