Predictive Optimization of Airport Transport Infrastructure: A Case Study of Yola International Airport

Efficient airport transport infrastructure is important for passenger safety, smooth operations, and regional connectivity. This study assesses the performance of airport infrastructure and passenger movement at Yola International Airport, Nigeria, with the aim of identifying operational challenges and proposing practical improvement strategies using data-based analysis. Observational data on passenger movement, waiting times, and facility usage were collected during peak and off-peak periods. Passenger flow analysis and simple scenario-based simulations were applied to examine airport performance under increased demand. The results show noticeable congestion during peak hours at check-in, security screening, and boarding areas, while some facilities remain underused during off-peak periods. The scenario analysis indicates that better allocation of resources and improved operational planning could reduce average passenger waiting times by about 25–30%. The study shows that predictive transport planning can improve passenger experience and infrastructure reliability at regional airports, offering useful insights for airport managers and transport planners.
