Sample preparation Commercial titanium felt porous transport layers (PTLs) with high porosities that are commonly used in PEMWEs have been obtained from two suppliers: PTL 1: Sylatech GmbH (Walzbachtal, Germany), graded pore structure, thickness 1 mm PTL 2: NV Bekaert SA (Zwevegem, Belgium), thickness 0.5 mm PTL 3: NV Bekaert SA (Zwevegem, Belgium), thickness 1 mm X-ray micro-computed tomography (µ-CT) µ-CT device: Procon CT alpha from Procon X-ray GmbH (Germany) Acquisation parameters: Source voltage: 50 kV Current: 160 µA Exposure time: 2000 ms Number of projections per 360°: 1200 Image reconstruction software: Volex (Fraunhofer ISS, Fürth, Germany) Image processing Binarization was achieved by global thresholding using the method from Otsu. Image processing was conducted with ImageJ 2.1051 (plugins MorphoLibJ and BoneJ). Further information can be found in Altaf et al. (2025).
