Gracilaria domingensis is red algae highly dispersed along the intertidal zones of Central and South America. The cell wall of G. domingensis contains agar, a polysaccharides mixture used in a wide variety of industrial products, such as food, medicines, cosmetics, chemicals, textile, among others.
