资源简介:
By August 2023, the global number of Venezuelan migrants and refugees had reached 7.7 million, marking one of the largest migration movements in recent decades and arguably the most significant in the context of South–South migration. The paper:
Stonawski, M. (2025). Venezuelans in Peru: Adaptation attitudes, optimism and relations with host society. International Migration, 63(3), e13348.
examines adaptation attitudes among Venezuelan migrants in Peru, as well as the perceptions of these processes among their Peruvian neighbours. It also explores the role of optimism and intergroup relations in shaping adaptation attitudes. To this end, a survey was conducted between April and May 2023 among Venezuelan migrants and Peruvian residents. The findings reveal substantial differences between the two groups: Venezuelans display a stronger orientation towards positive adaptation, whereas their neighbours are more inclined towards marginalisation or separation. Such divergences may increase the risk of intergroup tensions and potentially contribute to onward migration among Venezuelans. At the same time, optimism emerges as a significant factor influencing adaptation attitudes in both populations.
