This database aggregates billions of bathymetric measurements from across the globe, mapping the Southern Ocean’s seafloor topography with unprecedented precision. As a regional mapping initiative under the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO), IBCSO is closely associated with the Seabed 2030 Project and operates under the Expert Group of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR).
