资源简介:
Hawaiian Drosophilidae diversity can be illustrated in the morphological variation of the male foreleg. This feature is unknown in other Diptera families. One of the four subgroups of the modified tarsus flies is the "ciliated-tarsus group". This group is characterized by strong, thickened setae, or bristles, on the basitarsus. This group is also defined by what it lacks - which are additional modifications that are found among the other subgroups of modified tarsus flies. The modified thickened setae are thought to be the result of sexual selection and are used for courtship purposes. Please contribute and help transcribe UHIM's ciliated-tarsus fly specimens in order to better our understanding of their distribution here in Hawai'i.This expedition of 662 tasks is fully transcribed and validated. This data resource is harvested periodically into the main occurrence index.
