High starch content has negative effects on the color, odor and flavor of tobacco leaves as well as on the intrinsic and appearance qualities of flue-cured tobacco. Starch-degrading Bacillus velezensis T971 was isolated from leaves of tobacco, the complete genome of T971 was determined with Pacbio long read sequencing, resulting in a single circular chromosome with 3,930,941 bp. The study improved our understanding of T971's prominent ability for starch degradation in tobacco leaves.
