<p style='text-align:justify'><span>The terrestrial biodiversity map presented here
focuses on species richness. It was generated by scaling a present species
richness layer (IUCN, 2013) by the fraction intactness of terrestrial species
richness from the Predicts project (Hudson et al., in press) in each grid cell,
to yield an approximation to the remaining intact species richness. The
intactness layer builds on the Natural Capital Index approach (section 4.1), by
modelling the richness of species compared to their abundance in the natural
state. </span></p>
