Viral reads in the serum of pediatric patients

Since 1989, diagnostic serum samples from patients at the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, Uppsala Children's University Hospital, have been collected and registered at Uppsala Biobank. A total of 476 patient samples, collected between 1989 and 2018, representing different diagnoses and ages, were analyzed. The sampled children suffered from various pediatric oncological diagnoses and a group of non-malignant hematological diagnoses was also included for comparison. For metagenomic sequencing, the samples were divided into 23 pools based on diagnosis and age.
