Climate warming has increased the global cooling period and decreased the heating period. Cooling and heating degree days are widely used in many fields such as climate change, energy planning, and electricity. It has important scientific significance for the assessment of climate comfort and energy demand. In this study, a global cooling and heating degree day gridded dataset for 1981-2023 has been produced using 2 m temperature from the fifth-generation land-surface reanalysis dataset of European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), namely, the ERA5-Land reanalysis meteorological dataset. Compared with the global CDD and HDD calculated using Global Surface Summary of the Day (GSOD), the determination coefficients (R2) are 0.84 and 0.97, respectively. This dataset has high accuracy, which can better reflect the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of global cooling and heating degree days. It can be providing data support for the study of climate comfort and energy consumption in different regions of the world.
