Measuring sea ice thickness and snow cover depth is fundamental for understanding and monitoring the evolution of the sea ice cover in the transforming polar environment. Moreover, sea ice and snow depth are also relevant for various human activities in polar regions including ice road transportation, marine navigation engineering, and research. Within the Long-range Airborne Snow and Sea Ice Thickness Observing System (LASSITOS) project, we developed a sensor system for measuring sea ice and snow thickness from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The combined thickness of sea ice plus its snow cover is measured with the LASSITOS EM (LEM), a multifrequency electromagnetic sounding sensor. The snow depth over sea ice is measured with the LASSITOS Snow Radar (LSR). The sea ice thickness is derived by combining the two instruments. This repository contains the data collected during the validation field campaign on and-fast ice in Utqiagvik, Alaska in April 2024.
