Long-term dynamics of the oral microbiome during periodontitis progression linked to clinical outcomes

We performed a time-series analysis of the oral microbiome in people with periodontal disease, focusing on the ecological elements that could explain the transition from health to disease rather than changes in species composition. We hypothesized that looking at changes in the microbiome members' interconnections and their dynamics will give a more predictive indicator of the disease's outcome than focusing on changes in specific members of the microbiome.
