Oral and gut microbiomes of South Indian women with and without systemic lupus erythematosus

Feces and saliva samples were collected from 45 women with a diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus and 14 women without the diagnosis who had presented at Christian Medical College hospital, Vellore in South India. None of these subjects self-reported receiving antibiotic treatment in the past two months. The feces and saliva samples were sequenced for the 16S rRNA gene's V3-V4 amplicon on Illumina MiSeq in a single run to obtain paired 301 base reads. Flow cytometry of peripheral blood was performed for some of the subjects to obtain a limited immune cell profile.
