Signs on the building in the extreme left foreground read "Diehl Grocery Co.", "Trenwite, Dry Goods", and "The Great Wardrobe". The next building in along the left side identifies itself with the sign in its window as the "First National Bank". Further down, a third sign reads "Dr. Wilson. Physician-Surgeon [...] Eye, Ear, Nose-Throat" and a sign still further down reads simply "Views". A boy in short pants stands in the street in the foreground watching the traffic. The spire of a church is visible in the distance.
