Lobster Track And Field Team

This student project was designed in order to study the relationship between salinity fluctuations and lobster behavior in the Great Bay Estuary, New Hampshire. Other environmental parameters, such as temperature and depth, were also examined. It was hypothesized that lobsters would react to reduced salinity in one of three ways: move toward the ocean where the salinity is higher, move to pockets in the bay itself where salinity is more favorable, or remain in one location and die. Based on observations in the field and laboratory it is suggested that lobsters will try to avoid the salinity drop and move to a different location.
