VPRS 14982 Register of Government Proclamations [?1861 - ?1862]; Surveyors Descriptions of Land Allotments, Parish of Bellarine [1853]

This series contains two sets of records. The first consists of a number of surveyors descriptions of lots of Crown land in the parish of Bellarine to be offered for sale by auction. It is believed that these date from 1853. These descriptions give the exact dimensions of the land and the precise boundaries of each lot. The volume had also been ruled up to be used as a Letter registry for 1853 but not used as such.The main records consist of listings of the Government proclamations of such things as Commons (Farmers, Goldfields and Town), of Towns and Villages, Road Districts and municipalities, Roads, lands Reserved from lease in the settled districts, Roads and Names of Streets. Details given are the names of the localities, the page upon which the proclamation appeared in the Government Gazette and the date and/or year of the proclamation. It would appear that in 1861 - 1862 this data was brought together and summarised in this volume, possibly for future reference within the Department of Crown Lands and Survey.The volume was then used to record the details of specific groups of Government proclamations dating back to 1842.
