Euclid and Pythagoras: geometry and arithmetic

This relief was part of a set with various subjects, which used to be placed on the North side of the Florence Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore. Euclid and Pythagoras were all the more celebrated during the Renaissance as they were models from the Antiquity and their works were largely used by architects and artists of the time. Indeed, in order to recreate and explore Roman and Greek art, their works were indispensable and considered as arguments from authority.
