Glial and neuronal alpha synuclein induce unique transcriptional programs

We performed RNAseq using whole Drosophila heads after expressing human wild type alpha synuclein in either glia, neurons, or both types. We identified many upregulated genes when alpha synuclein was expresed in glia and many downregulated genes with it was expresed in neurons or both cell types. Overall design: Human wild type alpha synuclein was expressed in Drosophila glia and/or neurons. For glia we used the UAS-GAL4 expression system and the pan-glial enhancer, Repo. For neurons we used the Q system and the pan-neuronal enhancer Synaptobrevin.
