NRS-4326 | Copies of letters sent to officials and private individuals

These volumes contain copies of letters sent by the Assistant Gold Commissioners at Sofala and Turon in the Western Gold District to the following government officials: the Chief Gold Commissioner in Sydney, transmitting monthly reports on the number of licences issued, state of the gold fields, behaviour of the miners etc., and requests for instructions and advice; the Gold Commissioner for the Western District reporting disputed claims, forwarding accounts and monthly fees and reports on the gold fields; the Colonial Treasurer giving notice that licence money has been sent by escort; the Colonial Storekeeper requesting monthly supplies of licence books and to the Auditor General transmitting, monthly, licence books of counter parts and blanks of licences in support of licence money sent to the Colonial Treasurer. Letters sent to private individuals are mainly concerned with transmitting the decisions of the Chief Gold Commissioner on disputed claims and petitions.
