Rumen microbiota characterization in Dutch farms

The aim of this study was to characterize the rumen microbiota of dairy cattle in Dutch dairy herds and to link it with enteric methane emissions. Enteric methane production was measured using the GreenFeed emission monitoring system and rumen contents were collected in individual cows from 17 commercial dairy farms in the Netherlands. The rumen microbiota was characterized by 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
