Freshwater sponge metatranscriptome Transcriptome

The goal was to compare the metatranscriptome profile from the microbial communities of freshwater sponges before and after the formation of gemmules, which are resting bodies and form of asexual reproduction for the adult sponge. RNAseq was performed on mRNA-enriched RNA from the sponges, including sponge and all microbial RNA. Data analysis is focused on the prokaryotic community transcripts which were selected by mapping to prokaryotic databases. Transcript profile and abundance were compared between sponges prior to the formation of gemmules and after the formation of gemmules.
