We present a novel finding that thymol (Thymus vulgaris L.) reduces PSM production, the major determinants of S. aureus virulence and the component of biofilm matrix in methicillin-sensitive S. aureus (MSSA, S. aureus WKZ1) and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA, S. aureus WKZ2). Additionally, we report the transcriptional basis underlying these phenotypic alterations after thymol treatment.
