ASZ003 - As - Basic words (landscape, plants, animals, humans, verbs, numerals, qualities, and cultural items; Speaker: Hamid Mayor)

This dataset contains a quieter and more controlled elicitation of the basic words in ASZ001 with Hamid Mayor (born 1959), a native speaker of As. The words are recorded in isolation, utterance-final, and utterance-medial context; they cover the semantic domains of landscape, plants, animals, humans, verbs, numerals, qualities, and cultural items. A TextGrid file (for use in Praat) is also included. The session was recorded on 10 January 2020, in Asbaken village (Southwest Papua province, Indonesia). There is some background noise from the generator. The dataset relates to the Postdoctoral Fellowship 'Synchronic and diachronic investigations in Raja Ampat-South Halmahera, a little-known subbranch of Austronesian' (PF19\100004); additional fieldwork funds were provided by a Moray Endowment Grant from the University of Edinburgh.
