Gluconacetobacter europaeus is originally isolated from and industrial submerged vinegar fermentors with a high resistance to acetic acid (more than 18%). Peculiar phenotypic characteristic of G. europaeus is the requirement for traditional production of Italian vinegar, Aceto Balsamico. G. europaeus NBRC 3261 is found in fruits, Myrica rubra, from Nishinomiya, Hyogo, Japan.
